- The user first searches for the desired item in the OPAC catalog of the ASFA Library and, after confirming that it is unavailable, searches for it in other libraries through the union catalogs (ILSaS+)
- The user identifies which library holds the desired item. If the user cannot identify the holding library, the ASFA Library will conduct an availability search.
- The user completes and submits the Interlibrary Loan Application, providing personal details and bibliographic information for the requested item (e.g. title, author, publication year, etc.).
- The ASFA Library then sends the request to the library that holds the requested item.
- The lending library evaluates the interlibrary loan request and, provided that it complies with its lending policies, sends the requested material to the ASFA Library.
- The ASFA Library informs the user that the material is available for collection, applying the interlibrary loan regulations described below
The regulations governing interlibrary loan services — including loan periods, available material, fines, and related conditions — are determined by the operating regulations of the library supplying the material. Users of the service are required to respect and comply with these regulations and to return the material on time and in the condition in which it was received.
Loanable material may be collected either in person by the user or through a courier service. The delivery time depends on the method selected by the user. Users are notified about the arrival of the material either by telephone or by email.
– Only registered Library members are entitled to interlibrary loan of books.
– Interlibrary loan of articles is available both to registered Library members and to the wider research community.
Users are not charged by the ASFA Library for the interlibrary loan service itself.
Charges apply in the following cases:
- If the user chooses to receive the material by postal service or courier, the user bears the transportation costs.
- If the supplying library is a remote library located abroad (through the Subito service), the user is charged o €13 for each book supplied, and o the cost of returning the material to the supplying library.
The ASFA Library fulfills interlibrary loan requests from libraries of Higher Education Institutions and other cooperating libraries in Greece and abroad. Users are required to read and accept the Library’s Internal Operating Regulations. Books are loaned once only, for a period of 15 days, without the right of renewal.
Users are not charged by the ASFA Library for the article interlibrary loan service itself. The cost for article requests is as follows:
a. from other Greek libraries: from €2 to €15, depending on the number of pages.
β. from foreign libraries (through the Subito service): €6.
Payment is made upon delivery of the material.
