Services for People with Disabilities

ACCESSIBILITY FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
The Library & Information Center of the Athens School of Fine Arts, in collaboration with the A.S.F.A. Equal Access Unit supports equal access to education for all individuals, without barriers, with or without disabilities. Creating conditions for autonomous and equal access for everyone contributes to strengthening and supporting the educational process by offering equal access to knowledge to as many people as possible, without exclusion.
Accessibility of the Facilities
The Library building is located near the School’s parking area. It includes infrastructure that ensures horizontal and vertical, autonomous, and safe access for all individuals, with or without disabilities, throughout all areas of the building. All floors are accessible by elevators, and appropriately designed restroom facilities are available on every level of the building. Around the exterior of the building, specially designed ramps facilitate access both to the Library and to its amphitheater.
Accessibility of Services
The Library website provides text-reading services, image magnification, and color-adjustment functions for individuals who experience difficulties due to physical disabilities, perceptual or learning difficulties (such as dyslexia), blindness, or visual impairments (print disabilities).

AMELib

The A.S.F.A. Library & Information Center participates in the AMELib (Accessible Multi-modal Electronic Library) service as part of its support for users with print disabilities.

AMELib is a multimodal digital library created in 2015 by the HEAL-Link, following an initiative by the Library of Panteion University. The purpose of AMELib and HEAL-Link is to provide accessible books to all print-disabled users of Greek academic libraries.

Print-disabled individuals are considered to be persons who are unable to independently read printed material and require human or technological assistance for reading. The definition includes individuals who are blind, visually impaired, deaf, dyslexic, have other learning difficulties, upper-limb disabilities, and related conditions.

To facilitate reading for print-disabled users, books are converted into various accessible formats, including PDF, Word, Daisy, ePUB, and audio files. The catalog is continuously enriched with books included in the School’s curriculum.

More information about AMELib can be found at https://amelib.seab.gr

Use of AMELib

The A.S.F.A. Library & Information Center contributes to enriching AMELib with material related to art and selected academic textbooks used by the School. Members of the academic community may inform the Library staff about their reading difficulties or needs in order to gain access to the available digital material or to submit requests for the conversion of new books into accessible formats.

To register for the AMELib service, users must submit an online application through https://amelib.seab.gr/registration-form  (AMELib Registration Form). The Library, following communication with the Secretariat, confirms and certifies the user’s eligibility for registration and use of the service.
