Access to the audiovisual collection is provided through the Library staff.
The Library’s audiovisual collection includes:
- Fiction films, primarily classics, as well as several more recent productions
- Documentaries related to art across all historical periods
- Music CDs, mainly classical music and traditional music from countries around the world
Until the widespread expansion of the internet, the collection was regularly enriched with new material. After approximately 2010, acquisitions of new material became more limited and are now carried out mainly in response to specific requests or needs of the ASFA academic community.
Save the Dates: An Audiovisual Archive for Contemporary Art
Save the Dates is an innovative audiovisual archive that collects and preserves television and radio broadcasts dedicated to contemporary art. It was created through the initiative of the visual artist and researcher Katerina Zacharopoulou, in collaboration with the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA) and the National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens (EMST), with the support of ERT.
The archive was created with the purpose of preserving television and radio broadcasts from the period 1995–2025, establishing a broad field of research for contemporary art. It contains 776 broadcast interviews with artists and curators, exhibition presentations, discussions on major international events (such as Biennale, Documenta, and Manifesta), as well as material relating to the Greek contemporary art scene. The archive is fully documented and organized in order to facilitate access for artists, researchers, students, and the wider public.
Save the Dates constitutes a unique example of cultural heritage in digital form — an “archive in motion” that brings contemporary art closer to the public by providing access to the history, ideas, and narratives that shaped it.
The archive is accessible only within the premises of ASFA and the National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST).
Content of the Archive
The archive includes material from the following programs:
- «Η Εποχή των Εικόνων» (2003–2025), the only television program in Greece dedicated exclusively to contemporary art, broadcast on the public television network ERT since October 2003
- «Art-φιλ» (1995-1999), a series of half-hour episodes produced by the private television station Seven X
- «Video Gallery» (2000), a series consisting of 14 episodes, each 15 minutes long
- «Επίδειξη Τέχνης» (2001-2002), a series of 18 half-hour broadcasts
The platform continues to be enriched with material from later productions by Katerina Zacharopoulou.
As a specialized educational and research art library, the Library of the Athens School of Fine Arts shapes its collection development policy in accordance with the educational and research objectives of ASFA. The Library’s collections provide a wealth of information aimed at broadening the knowledge and research interests not only of the educational and artistic community, but also of the wider public.
